Memento Mori

It is 'remember to die' in English.

I have love and believe in this Latin phrase ever since, and please do not think I am weird or suicidal (like most people reacted when they saw this temporary ink on me). I think it is such a beautiful phrase that I should always put in to mind.

The moment you utterly accepted that you are mortal, it is also the moment when you will never be scared anymore of living your life. The acceptance unveils who really you are without fear or anxiety. It will erase every 'what ifs' and will transform the into 'I can do this'. It will obliterate your over consciousness of things or the 'this-might-embarrass-me' thoughts. And when you constantly remember that you will die, the more you will feel that you have to do your tasks now or the more you will not let any opportunity pass. It is acknowledging the fact that time is limited and so you have to 'make the most out of it'.

Remembering to die is not being morbid, it is savoring every single moment in life.
PS: I have watch Steve Jobs' 2005 Speech at Standford University and he explained in his story about the 'acceptance that someday you will be dead'. He did not particularly mentioned 'memento mori' but I think the essence of his third story about death and this phrase is the same.
